SPORTING TRADITION
Ivanec is a town proud of its long sporting tradition - from popular vernacular sports to modern day competitive ones. It is important to say that nearly every local community and village has its own sport society and organizes a number of tournaments and other events. For several decades now, the center of life in a municipality of Lančić was an artificial lake, also important for a booming fishing community, so it’s no surprise that it was chosen as the location for the new Sports and Recreation Center.
The Center spans a 16.000 sqm area and is defined by a cycling track and footpath that runs in a circle around the lake and at times links to surrounding roads and areas for leisure and recreation. Center contains a court for combined sports with stands, beach volleyball court, grass court for vernacular sports, bocce court and a children's playground. Focal point of the area is a terrace with washing facilities, covered by a boldly designed overhang made from laminated timber girders and shaped to resemble the surrounding hills at the foot of mountain Ivanščica.
